Stop pretending porn is different

We know images and words have power. We wouldn't have a multi-billion dollar advertising industry if images and words didn't have power. We wouldn't have suppressive governments ban certain images and words if they didn't have power. We wouldn't get upset at the media's portrayal of women and minorities if they didn't have power....yet somehow when it comes to porn, all of this knowledge goes out the window.

We try to make it all about women's agency and empowerment. We try to claim it's a fantasy so it doesn't matter...because the rest of media isn't fantasy somehow. We try to say that it's meant for adults, so we shouldn't worry about how it will affect kids. We try to claim all kinds of nonsense that we would NEVER claim of any other medium. So, for all of you pro-porn, agency, and empowerment feminists, I've got questions.

How is it that it's NOT ok to constantly portray black women as angry bitches in movies and TV but it somehow IS okay to do that as long as somebody fucks them?
How is it that it's NOT ok to constantly portray Latinas as hypersexual maids in movies and TV, but somehow it IS okay to do that as long as somebody fucks them?
How is it that it's NOT ok to constantly portray Asian women as ultra-submissive bimbos in movies and TV, but somehow it IS okay to that as long as somebody fucks them?
How come when black women are portrayed as angry bitches, Latinas are portrayed as hypersexual maids, and Asian women are portrayed as ultra-submissive bimbos in movies and TV, we don't say it's a celebration of their agency and empowerment because it was their choice to appear in those shows and movies?
How come when some celebrity utters a racial or gender slur, we freak out, boycott, write blogs, write articles, and ask for apologies, but when porn does it over and over and over and over and over, we don't care?
How come we can criticize the fast food industry or a place like Walmart for their mistreatment of workers and their negative impacts on society and nobody says we're anti-food/anti-shopping or taking away fast food workers' choices, but when it comes to criticizing the porn industry's mistreatment of its workers and its negative impacts on society, we are anti-sex and taking away women's choices?

Just STOP! Stop pretending this is okay. Stop pretending porn is the ONE form of media that magically doesn't affect people. Stop pretending this is about "women's agency." Stop being a hypocrite. Just stop it. Stop it NOW!
