There is no such thing as slut shaming and feminism needs to grow the fuck up

So, there's this HuffPo article floating around about how you can hate Melania Trump without "slut shaming." I'm not going to link it because it's stupid and I don't want to help them get more page clicks, but can we talk about how fucked up this really is? Of all the anti-woman rhetoric Donald Trump spits out, of all the threats to undo years of feminism he and his running mate pose, of all the problems facing women today, "slut shaming" a gold-digging loser is what we need to be worried about? I realize people can care about multiple issues, but this one is not worth taking attention away from ANYTHING!

First of all, I really wish the term "slut shaming" would fuck off and die in a fire. "Slut" is a slur against women. The insinuation is she is already a slut and you are shaming her for being one. What the fuck is that? Have you ever heard of n*gger shaming, k*ke shaming, f*g shaming, sp*c shaming, tr*nny shaming, etc.?  No. Because there's no such thing as a n*gger, k*ke, f*g, sp*c, or tr*nny!! There is no such thing as a slut either. These are words meant to shame people for existing. You can't call someone a slur then say that they're being shamed for BEING that slur. There is no such thing as slut shaming. There's only woman hating.

Also, have feminists all lost their fucking minds? I'm getting dangerously close to not calling myself a feminist anymore because I hate what's today's popular "feminism" is. Since when did willing prostitutes become great role models for women? I definitely understand and support the idea that we shouldn't be (necessarily) shaming women for turning to prostitution or porn because in most cases, they have few other choices and to shame them for surviving is pretty shitty and it gives patriarchy what it wants, which is complete absolution of responsibility on men's part. Melania Trump is not some poor little street urchin who couldn't make a living any other way. This is a highly privileged woman who grew up in a rich family who had all the opportunities in the world at her fingertips and THIS is the one she chose because she want to keep being a rich, spoiled brat. She only likes Trump because he is rich just like Daddy was. Seriously, go Google a picture of her parents. Her dad even looks like Trump. She has completely signed away her entire self, her entire identity, her entire worth, and all women's worth because she wants to be rich. This is not a good person here and certainly not a good role model for women.

...but we are much more concerned with her being "slut shamed" than we are over the deleterious influence she will have on young women...because apparently that's what being a feminist means today. It's OK to idolize prostitutes and porn stars as long as you don't "slut shame" them. It's OK to teach women that their pussies are for sale just like a box of Pop Tarts on the shelves at Walmart… As long as you don't "slut shame" them. It's OK to teach women that completely giving in to exactly what patriarchy demands of then because it is totally empowering… But don't "slut shame" them for giving up on actual feminism and throwing all their sisters under the bus....just so long as one woman somewhere in the world is "empowered," it doesn't matter what happens to the rest of the women in the world.

In 50 years a Ken Burns type will make a documentary about the feminism of now and how it paved the way for the women of 2060. You know who it will feature? The likes of Paris Hilton, Kim Kardashian, Lindsay Lohan, Kylie Jenner, and Melania Trump. It will say what a great influence they had on young women at the time to follow their dreams and goals....of being porn stars, hookers, and strippers....much in the way documentaries today talk about the likes of Gloria Steinem, Katherine MacKinnon, Betty Friedan, and Andrea Dworkin.

This is just how far feminism has its head up its own twat these days and I'm sick of it. It's all about me me me me. If I say something is OK then that means it's OK for everybody and it's none of your business and you're not allowed to question me, my job, my place of employment, my boss, the industry I'm in, or my human rights....because I CHOOOOOOSE to waive my rights as a human being so that I could be "empowered." It doesn't matter that I'm waiving away other women's human rights by doing this. It doesn't matter that millions of women are unwillingly sold into sexual slavery in the prostitution and porn industries. We shouldn't worry about them… we should worry about the five or six women in the world who had plenty of options and chose these lines of work being "slut shamed." We should worry about MEEEEEEE because I'm a millionaire prostitute and I love it and I think it's great, therefore prostitution is great and you can't argue with me or even with the concept of prostitution or you're "shaming" me. You can't say I'm not a good role model for your daughter! Slut shamer! SWERF! Anti-feminist!

This is the level of insanity we have gotten to. THESE are our values. THESE things are what matter the most to us. Not equal pay, not child care, not human trafficking, not education, not reproductive rights, not safety from domestic violence....nope...the fact that people "slut shame" women sometimes....That is what matters.

And the greatest irony of all… We say, "How dare anyone criticize Melania Trump for being a 'slut?' She's empowered! She's doing what she wants! She's being the woman of her own dreams and you can't criticize her for that! Just because YOU don't think it's good for women to be sexual objects doesn't mean that some women don't enjoy being sexual objects! It's what makes her feel empowered! Shame on you for trying to make her feel bad!"

…but then when some male scientist dildo wears a shirt with pictures of naked women all over it to a convention (Google shirtgate if you don't know this story), the very same feminists turn around and complain about how he is objectifying women and how can he do that and OMG he is such a pig.

.....

Oh? Really? I thought the women on his shirt were just super empowered and shit? So, what are you saying? It's OK for women to be prostitutes but it's not OK for men to buy them? Weeeeellllllllllll I kind of have a problem with that business model because what you were saying is it's OK for a woman to offer a service but if she makes any money off of it from a customer, the customer is a bad person. What?! How the hell is she supposed to still make money be "empowered" if her product doesn't sell? Also, what do you expect him to do when she is offering herself to him, and indeed all men, and a large contingency of "feminists" are cheering her on for doing so?!

We are throwing our sisters under the bus and then blowing ourselves with it by saying how empowered they are and how we support their empowerment, then acting outraged when men follow our example. We can't imagine why boys would do terrible things like drug women, rape them, record it, and share it on twitter, but we say a woman who is paid to pretend she has been drugged and raped in a porn movie is "empowered." What the fuck is wrong with you people?

You are all going to be pretty goddamn sorry you supported all this fake, pro-patriarchy empowerment, that tells women that their only choices are to be fuckable or invisible so choosing fuckable gives them power and agency somehow, when you are all 50 and you can't find a job because you aren't fuckable anymore.... And *I* am going to be REALLY sorry because I never encouraged this bullshit but I also will not be able to find a job when I'm 50 because I'm not fuckable anymore either.

....because of YOU!

YOU are teaching society that we are disposable. YOU are teaching women that choosing fuckability over invisibility is "empowering." YOU are teaching no one to question the sex industries. YOU are the one undoing hundreds of years of feminism and knocking down the pillars we all stand on that were built by women who gave their entire lives to building those pillars...and when we are the next Saudi Arabia, only in mandatory bikinis and heels instead of abayas and yashmaks, YOU will be to blame.

But I'm sure when that happens, you will just look at twentysomethings who are taking away your only livelihood (because they're fuckable and you're not) and saying how happy you are to see that all your hard work taught society how to treat them. You should be a willing sacrifice so that they can be empowered. Yeah bloody right....

Seriously. It is time for feminism to show just a tiny bit of foresight and to grow the fuck up! Pin It
